COLON FURR MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

​

Any permanent legal resident who resides in North Carolina and has been accepted to or is enrolled in a 1 year Licensed Practical Nurse program or who is enrolled in a 2, 3, or 4-year program that leads to certification as a Registered Nurse is eligible for this scholarship. The school must be in North Carolina. Download and submit your application below by September 25!

tar heel boys and girls state

Tar Heel Boys’ and Girls’ State is sponsored by The American Legion Department of North Carolina. It is an intense workshop concentrating on North Carolina state government and politics. Some 500 rising high school seniors representing all geographic areas of North Carolina participate annually in this program. Since 2003 the sessions have been held on the campus of Catawba College, Salisbury, NC.

the american legion student trooper program 

The North Carolina American Legion Student Trooper Program is jointly sponsored by the NC American Legion and the NC Highway Patrol. Only applicants who have completed their junior year or senior year in high school will be considered. Applicants must be of good character, demonstrate qualities of Americanism and Leadership, and present a neat appearance.

The American Legion and the Boy Scouts of America have developed a cooperative relationship to promote the organization and sponsorship of Scout units by posts of The American Legion. The Boy Scout who wins this award receives a $1000.00 scholarship towards attendance at any of the recognized “high adventure” programs sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.

oratorical contest

The contest, open to US citizens or lawful residents under the age of 20 and currently enrolled in grade 9-12, is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the US Constitution and with public speaking skills that can help them with advancement in their chosen profession.

THE AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

SAMSUNG AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP

Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea’s aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount. To date, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $5.5 million to approximately 2,069 applicants.

Scholarship applications are restricted to high school juniors who attend the current session of either The American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program.

LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

The American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship provides college scholarship money to children of post-9/11 veterans who died on active duty, or have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.

junior shooting sports scholarship

The American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program is a gun safety education and marksmanship program that encompasses the basic elements of safety, education, enjoyment and competition. Shooters use the .177 caliber air rifle. Both males and females can participate, through Legion sponsorship; disabled youth are encouraged to join, as competitive shooting is a sport that creates an equal playing field for all competitors.

The American Legion 3-Position Junior Air Rifle Championship will be held at the USA Shooting range facility located at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The winners in both the Precision and Sporter category will each receive a $5,000.00 college scholarship provided in part by The American Legion and The Sons of the American Legion. The two winners will also receive an expense paid trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they will be honored as part of the Youth Champions Delegation during the 2018 American Legion National Convention August 23 – 29, 2019.
